For (F***) Love's Sake

I wrote my soul into you
But now my words sweat down your skin-
A mucky puddle wriggles within your
space, slinks into the cracks in the
flooring, entices each breath to taste
As dust,
Leaves a trail of our love like crisped, fallen
leaves.
The ink of my eye dribbles out your pores
Yet I am the one itching at my burnt flesh,
Fingernails bitten down to stubs to keep my
head in the present
Still both of us- you and I, no longer both of
us but humankind in bodies of mutual
standing- we speak in devastation.
Our story was meant to be creative non
fiction but instead I gripped the pen too
tight and dug fantasy into our skins,
I dragged the bookmark out and lost the
page we were in when happiness ruled
And our smiles pressed together seemed
Raw and right and something worth
reaching out for.
You will always be worth reaching out for-
But my words have run their course
And So has our love.
