Little Shadow (Poem I wrote regarding my younger sister)
Trailing behind me I feel there’s a shadow:
A shadow with short chocolate hair,
A shadow with large innocent eyes,
A shadow with small curious hands,
A shadow that always wants to try.
This is a shadow whose feet, though connected to me, can’t seem to stop bouncing and dancing.
I hear a smile behind me, I am certain that it is the shadow now.
A shadow that stops and randomly starts prancing,
A shadow that’s every move is dramatic,
A shadow that wiggles with passionate eagerness,
A shadow that is oddly charismatic.
A shadow that is similar, and connected to me, that is a separate figure all on its own.
I cannot help but laugh as I look back, laughing at the shadow behind me that I know is there.
A shadow that is my best friend,
A shadow that’s wisdom is centered at home,
A shadow that blooms like a beautiful flower,
A shadow that forever I have known.
This shadow looks up to me, and though connected to me, I know it will grow up to be something new.
I know that the shadow will be a light in the world.
She is my little shadow.
